I was going to post this in another thread but decided to make a new one in hopes to get more feedback because the other thread was like 7 pages.
This is going to be my only post on the matter and I promise i won't be flooding the forums with my negative opinions. I really just want to know if anyone feels the same as I do.
Whats wrong with hardcore today:
Abundance of vocals: 9 out 10 tracks released these days have them. Back in 02/03 it was maybe 1 in 10. I especially can't stand the male vocals. Hardcore used to be deliberatly cheesy which was why i loved it, now it tries to be serious which makes it cheesy in a bad way.
Sounds like sped up Commercial Dance: In NO WAY is this a good thing for the scene.
Darren Styles: No he didn't single handedly kill hardcore, but hes a perfect example of whats ruining hardcore. He may have done alot for the scene (via the wrong kind of exposure), but he has done nothing good for the music. Im guessing most of the people sticking up for Styles don't understand what hardcore is all about. When hardcore has been your passion for the past ~8+ years you come to realize that 90% of people in the scene know very little or next to nothing about hardcore itself. So when you aim to please the MASSES, rather than the true fans, you are taking the scene in the wrong direction.
Lack of high energy explosive tracks: Dougal and Gammer used to be my favourite producers. Gammer especially. Tracks like 3000 Cycles, Pound it Loud, X-treme etc would get me fired up. Now most of their tracks are "Feat. Jemma" or "Feat. Cat Night"...
No variation in track structure: EVERY track has the same structure. These days, i can open any new track in winamp, and know exactly where to skip in to hear the melody, the vocals, build up and the peak, WITHOUT EVER HEARING THE TRACK BEFORE.
I think what was said in another thread might be true, that Freeform may be the future for hardcore. Even though it was never my favourite, its the only new hardcore i can listen to these days.
This is my opinion, and im sure 90% of people will disagree.

Jesus. F. Christ.
Not again.
Simply put: you're wrong. And you're wrong not in your specific points, but in principle.
Why?
Because you focus on the select few in the spotlight instead of stepping back and looking for other faces of hardcore. They're out there, they're within your reach and they're GREAT.
This includes:
- the RFU / Hardcore Underground camp
- Electronica Exposed
- Nu Energy Collective
- FINRG (and related projects like Hybridize)
- Bedlam (with two upcoming albums and very exciting stuff in the pipeline)
- bounce-oriented stuff (Lethal Theory, TNC etc.)
- loads of digital-only labels (some crap, but also a few fresh and original ones)
- and if you want other faces of hardcore, you have - for instance - a growing hardcore breaks scene, which is practically "new oldskool"
Musically, hardcore is amazing at the moment. Essentially, the only thing WRONG about hardcore nowadays is the people. On one hand the select few pulling most strings and blocking the aforementioned lot, and on the other - the ignorant 90% you mentioned.
You want to make a difference?
Support your favourite artists and projects, SPREAD THE WORD, try to enlighten people. Focus your energy positively instead of posting yet another "hardcore is getting shit blah blah blah" thread. Contribute to making hardcore better - you'll either succeed or die trying, but it's worth it, isn't it.

Firstly your right about male vocals. I hate them too & they just don't sound right with Hardcore. But you are totally wrong saying it all sounds like sped up dance. Darren Styles is not ruining Hardcore although some of his choons have been shite, mainly because of the male vocals. I believe Styles was at his best when Force & Styles were together & also when he first started out with Breeze. If you look there are plenty of high energy explosive tracks. You're just looking in the wrong places & finally yes i do know my Hardcore as i've been listening & supporting the scene for the last 18 years.

Welcome to the forums! Your not the first person who feels this way, don't worry! Im into 90s stuff so see that as better. I agree with there being no variation in track structure. There is alot of people copying each other making stuff that sounds the same but that is only mainstream stuff so I don't by mainsream CDs (Clubland, Hardcore Adreniline ect) but there are other artists who try new stuff, they just don't get a look in!
I also agree with Freeform, it is doing more for the scene that today's so called 'Hardcore' is but I rear that some Freeform artists are producing watered down stuff just to keep themselves noticed! As a result we will end up with no Freeform & just has sped up club music!
As I said I usualy only listen to 90s stuff, it has more edge to it which alot of (but not all) todays Hardcore has!

On pretty much every point all i can recommend for you is to stop listening to UK Hardcore. Stay away from the mainstream stuff and go for the more obscure artists and labels. You can definatley find plenty of varied, non-vocal, non-cheesy or "deliberately cheesy" high energy tracks. Torpex was spot on actually.
As for Styles - you're talking shit. He's done plenty for hardcore music. Ye he makes shit now, but in his Force & Styles (and even breeze & styles) days the guy made some bangers. Tbh i think it's you who doesn't have a clue mate. You've been listening to hardcore for 8 years? Care to venture further back and you'll see that Styles was once something to shout about.

Sorry I forgot to specify everything i said about him is in reference to the more recent. I agree he's made some wicked tracks in the past.

Supporting the stuff you like is a better way of influencing 'the scene' than moaning on internet forums about the stuff you don't like. While IMHO UK Hardcore has got to a point where I see little connection to the old Hardcore I love, it is obviously satisfying a large number of people. I can't see them changing it in response to a minority when compilations are selling and arenas are full.

i'm getting fed up with these sort of threads
if you don't like hardcore anymore f*ck off & listen to your mix tapes
The last thing the scene needs is ANOTHER negative attitude
