We ask this every year, what the next year will hold for Hardcore, however 2010 will be the start of a new decade and as with the start of every new decade, everything from the last decade gets branded as 'dated'

This means a few things, if any Hardcore artist makes stuff in the '2000s style' then they will be at risk of being an 'Old Skool producer'. The sounds of the 2000s, Trancerifts, basslines, vocals ect will be classed as last decade, just like in the early 2000s artists decided that the breaks, hard kicks and organ rifts where 'Old Skool' because that was the sound of the 90s. As Hardcore dropped the breaks in the mid 90s in a way the early 90s stuff already became Old Skool. Hardcore evolved quicker and the 90s.

However now the 2000s is ending and as Hardcore isn't evevolving my question is this; Will the 'top guns' (Hixxy, Styles, Sy, Dougal ect) still make stuff in the 2000s style when they where the ones who claimed that Hardcore had evolved from its 90s style (all made better tunage in the 90s imo) yet they will keep hold of the 2000s style? How many people made 1995 sounding tunes in the year 2000? Will there be artists making 2005 sounding Hardcore in 2010?

Things are chaning, attitudes of ravers are changing as well. In the late 80s/early 90s it was all PLUR. In the 2000s it is H.T.I.D but if the top guns want to move with the times it might be best to say goodbye to the trancerifts and sonsg sung by Lisa Abbot ect.

However if they do want to make 'dated' Hardcore then why can't we all make 90s sounding Hardcore? If everyone is going to make 'Old Skool' then we might as well make good Old Skool so I feel a 90s revival! For those who want a 2000s revival then wain until 2020!

What are your views of the future of Hardcore?

The same as it is now tbh. There's not going to be any huge jump between this year and the next I shouldn't think.

while mainstream goes commercial, Freeform will take it's place. Freeform (or rather most Nu Energy labels) have all went down the drain

I can't see it changing much to be honest. I'd really like to see an old skool cd made by hixxy and breeze and style but I doubt it will ever happen.

I think if you ever go to a freeformation night and see how many people are still mad for it you wouldn't say that.

Cant see much change happening in next year to be honest in a few years you might be able to say 'that sounds like a 2000s tune' but it's not going to be over night.

What's your point? It didn't change much and I don't think it will next year either. :P It's been gradually changing and there is no sign to say there is going to be a huge jump any time soon.

TBH there is loads of stuff about I love at the mo so I'm really not fussed.

One of the reasons it hasn't changed much in the 00s is because there haven't been any big technological innovations, so it's all down to imagination, and yes, some producers are running out of that. I like most kinds of hardcore, and there have been good tunes released this year too, so I'm not worried about next year. And I disagree with hardcore being labeled 'dated' in 2 weeks. Most likely hardcore will sound similar to this year for a few years at least, and if it sounds the same, you can't call 2009 hardcore dated.

So a step backwards is the new step forwards? Funny, people seem so keen to point out that Hardcore evolved from it's Old Skool ruotes yet are unable to let go of the 2000s?

I hope more producers dig deeper into their imaginations next year because mid-2009 til now has been stale. I wish more artists would focus more on zany cheesy riffs, chirpy vocals, and put more funny sounds in the music again. I also hope there are more tracks with a rawer kick drum along with the chesse and vocals. Here lately, I've been having to dive back into the older happy hardcore becuase there are too many male vocals and a bland 64-beat mid section flooding today's Hardcore. Ant Johnson is becoming one of the only male vocal artists I can tolerate, and whoever Stu Allan had sing for some of his recent tracks.

They will replace her with somone else if they feel she isn't up to scratch. But I avoide any tune with Lisa Abbot in just like I avoide any tune produced by the 'Top guns'
